SUPPLEMENTAL RECRUITMENT OUTREACH INITIATIVES – Dec 1 2007 – Nov 30 2008 

12/9/07 - Tour of the Station. News Director conducted a Station tour for a group of local Cub Scout Pack members and Leader discussing broadcast in general and day-to-day responsibilities, also introduced Program Director/On-Air Announcer for discussion on what an announcer does, and cut a liner as a group. Station Personnel: Jim Pilgrim, Ron Hunter  

March ’07  - Had a booth set up at the Austin Home & Vacation Show at the Riverside Arena with station information and blank applications on hand. Station Employees rotated manning the booth throughout the 3 day event and spoke with attendees about broadcast career opportunities for their particular position. 

5/2/08 – Tour of Stations & Career Mentorship. Graduating Students from Lake Mills HS participated in our Senior Nights event that accompanied by a School Official. They were present for 2-1/2 hours. Event started at 5:30pm w/complimentary dinner from local restaurant, followed by tour of the stations with a station appointed chaperone, and as a group they select all of the songs to air that evening and drafted some on-air prep. Then they’re physically On-the Air Broadcasting for 2 hrs with an experienced Announcer - introducing songs, recognizing sponsors, and producing Graduation Safety Messages that air after the event, and weather announcements.

July ’08 -  Hosted an Albert Lea Chamber Event at our location inviting all Chamber Members, Ambassadors, and public to tour of the facility introducing all employees and gave a presentation on both KQPR-FM and KQAQ-AM and ended the event with a Q&A session answering questions about Broadcast in general and specific questions about our two stations and positions within.

9/22/08-Current – Internship/Career Mentoring program is established with the Albert Lea HS to acquire a basic understanding and skills for Entry Level positions. 8 wk program in process ….providing career mentoring for local HS Student (Brittany Osmundson) who had interest in pursuing a career in Broadcast. She’s currently observing all aspects of our stations.

NOV ’08 – Provided formal Smart’s Broadcasting Traffic Training (via conference) to Mickey Lien, our FT Traffic Manager replacement.
